YVAN BAUDOIN
Sculptor
Yvan Baudoin has been practicing the art of stone for 30 years with the same passion. Made to be a stonemason, he was introduced to this art from 1980 to 1983. Then he studied drawing and modeling at the workshops of the City of Paris. He obtained a scholarship from the Société d’Encouragement aux Métiers d’Art, from 1984 to 1985, with the sculptor Michaël Prentice. He received the International Prize for Contemporary Art from the Prince Rainier Foundation of Monaco. Since 1989, he has been registered at the Maison des Artistes.
His gestures are precise, he caresses the stone in power. Yvan is a discreet man and he likes to share his passion for stone with everyone.
I am a native of Yonne and the more time goes by, the more wonderful places I find here. The Serein valley, the Cousin valley and the Armançon valley, all have a true charm. I would even say that here the earth does not crush the human, nature does not hinder the walk. I started as a stonemason and then took evening classes in drawing and modeling to get into sculpture. I also worked in restoration on prestigious buildings like the Louvre or the Invalides.
Today, I am mainly an animal sculptor: I am looking for a clean slate for each of my creations. I love the freedom of my job so much, as it’s not the case for many other jobs.
Massangy stone is a limestone from Tonnerre area in Yonne. It is a very beautiful stone, with beige to golden tones, which is really pleasant to work with. It has also be used in the foundations of the Eiffel Tower.”

He undoubtedly masters art and orality, the head of the foundation that today bears his surname. Or even repartee, not devoid of a touch of humour, when he is asked to give his definition of contemporary art, answering a shifted question from the audience!
